FUNNY

I realized that I haven't posted any pictures in a while, mostly because we haven't taken any. Sooo, you get to look at goofy pictures I took with the 'mirror-image' feature of my webcam.

SCARY!!!

Good Advice

There's nothing better I can say in my blog today than what my pastor wrote yesterday. Read it - I bet you need to hear this message just as much as I did.

If I couldn't have kids...

If I couldn't have kids, I would be very sad.
To just think of the thought makes me really quite mad.
Hey ovaries! Uterus! Listen to me!
I'm tired of waiting around, don't you see?!?
My fallopian tubes are as clean as a whistle,
Not fat like my arteries clogged up with gristle.
My eggs are quite timely, my follicles round,
Now what is the problem? Why can't it be found?
It's sure not my husband, whose sperm are elite,
I dare anyone else's to try and compete!
They swim with such fervor, they flow like the Nile,
You'd think that their task was to swim fifty miles!
But up through the crevice of my hips they go,
what happens next, I sure as crap do not know.
I'm wondering just how much more I can take -
My heart that is empty is ready to break.
I guess I can always find plenty to do,
Like read books, paint pictures, moonlight at the zoo.
I know there's a plan and I'll patiently wait
For my stork to arrive, be it early or late.
Until then I'll relish the sleep that I get,
and be glad that I don't have to listen to fits.
I don't clean up poo, I don't listen to screams,
I get to leave restaurant booths pretty clean.
We travel for two, come and go as we please,
We don't have to wipe boogers after a sneeze.
I know there's a kid that is waiting for me,
somewhere in the void that I cannot yet see.
No matter what happens, no matter the end,
I will trust in my God, my Creator, my Friend.

Where are you Going?

Where are you going? Are you in a hurry to get there? Do you know what you're going to do WHEN you get there? Being the planner that I am, I always have my sights set on what comes next. I have every intention of getting exactly where I want to go, doing whatever it takes to get there. When unexpected road blocks appear, however, it takes quite an adjustment for me to find a "new road".

It's frustrating when your life doesn't go in the direction you intended it to. Change, improvisation, and interpretation are but a few of the skills one needs to keep moving forward.

At this point in my life, I honestly have NO IDEA where I'm going, and where I'll end up. I guess that's what they mean when they say, "Just take it one day at a time." Ten years ago, when I was 19, I could not have even DREAMED that I would be where I am today, and that I would have been through all of the ups and downs that I have. Marriage, death, another marriage, being at the same job for seven years, living in a town I had only visited a few times, earning two degrees...the experiences, turmoil, and blessings are quite amazing when I think about it.

I certainly have hopes and dreams for the next ten. If I had it my way, there would be children, a house with some land, more travel, and maybe even a change in career path, or at least a short-lived detour.

God has His own plan, though, and if it's anything like the past ten years of my life, my heart and mind just cannot HOLD the idea of the goodness to come.

First Day

Today was the first day of school. Lucky for me, I only had to go for a half day, because I only work for half of the day on Tuesdays. I was excited to see the kids and get back into the swing of things, but I'm going to be honest - being a teacher is hard. It takes a lot of energy keeping up with those little bodies, and by the end of the day, I am pooped.

The good news is, kids say really funny stuff, which helps you get through the day of teaching. I had a new little kindergartener with no front teeth ask me if they were going to get candy at the end of Creative Movement class. I had two first grade boys being silly and sucking their thumbs during an activity, and before I could get onto them about it, another little girl walked over to both of them and said, "That's how you get the swine flu." Those boys were wiping their thumbs off on their shirts faster than you could even imagine.

Each day is a new day, and I look forward to the challenge, and especially, the possibilities. I'm hoping for a nice, peaceful, uneventful year...we'll see what happens!!!

Since I've been 29...

Oh Stink.

I have been neglecting my blog.

Here are some things that have happened in my life since I turned 29.

(the good, the bad, and the ugly.)

My uncle Jim died. I posted the link in my last blog entry. This is a very sad time for my family right now, and I don't know what to say other than that the world lost a very, very, VERY wonderful man.

I'm back at school. Today was my first day back, actually. I was really hesitant to go, but seeing friends and opening up a new stapler, a package of dry-erase markers, and a new instrument were enough to put me back in my happy place. Don't you just LOVE a new school year?

I've seen three movies: Julie and Julia, The Time Traveler's Wife, and the Proposal. All excellent...I would highly recommend them. Next on our list is GI Joe...let me tell you how excited I am for that one!! (Can you pick up on my sarcasm though the computer? I thought so.) To be fair, though, Ben went with me to see the Proposal, so I better do my part. Marriage IS about compromise, after all. :-)

I started my book. It's harder than I thought it was going to be, but I'm still going for it.

We lost a parent at St. Paul's. The VP of Sprint that died in Colorado when a boulder crashed into his car is one of our dads. I am so so SO sad for this family, of which I have had all three boys as students. Please pray for them as they go through this horrible time.

I became a card-carrying member of the Mid-Continent Public Library! Isn't that embarrassing? Not that I have a library card, but that I JUST NOW got one. Don't tell anyone, okay? Actually, I say, "Better late than never." I can't wait to go and check out my first book. Any good recommendations?

I guess this is all I have to say for now about being 29. I hope to have even more EXCITING (and maybe less sad) news as I forge ahead into this unknown territory.

Oh! And don't forget to check out my seester's blog. The link is on the right!
